Recently, there is news that big plant NXP (NXP) plans to adjust the price of car chips. NXP customers are also mainly focused on automotive electronics and medical equipment universal MCU, but due to limited market spot, the situation of short supply, resulting in MK series universal MCU delivery period extended to 52-100 weeks, and are in the state of subcargo. NXP did not respond to a request for comment. Although the supply chain of consumer electronics enters the inventory destocking stage in the second half of the year, the demand for automotive, industrial control, Netcom chips and other applications is still on the rise. In particular, the demand for automotive chips is strong. In response to the continuous shortage of supply chain capacity, NXP established NCNR(non-cancelable, non-returnable) system to help auto manufacturers and Tier1(Tier1 supplier) enterprises to rationally allocate capacity. Based on current and 2023 NCNR order levels, NXP currently has capacity to cover 80% of its order requirements, which gives the company confidence in the long-term market outlook. It is reported that the car chip is structural, rather than overall out of stock, some product inventory pressure has quietly spread, but the power semiconductor and MCU is still relatively tight, IDM big factory car IGBT delivery time is still more than 50 weeks. On top of that, NXP is slowing hiring and cutting capital spending.
