Computational storage is a new word that has emerged in the field of enterprise data storage. The antecedent of computational storage is that it often takes too much time, effort, and resources to move data from a storage location to a processing location. The resulting time lag can lead to delays, which in turn represent slower response times. Moving data processing closer to the data increases efficiency and reduces latency.

It takes time to move the data to a central location where it can be analyzed. Real-time processing by cameras is a must these days, especially in applications such as facial recognition, license plate recognition, contraband or explosive identification. Actionable information is time sensitive and cannot wait for data to be moved. Analyzing field data requires processing and storage, making computational storage an ideal choice.
